Hi Mary Shore. Obviously I'm slightly older than you {the years catch up with us all in the end} and I was at Kent school in 69 and 70. Just thought I would let you know that my Dad was stationed at S.H.A.P.E. and we also lived at Casteau homes; do you remember the 'lake'. It was at the top of the street we lived in. If I remember correctly it was just one name for the streets on the whole estate and it was called Avenue des Nations. It may have changed since I lived there. When I left Kent school I transferred to the Canadian Section at S.H.A.P.E. International School. If you fancy a chat about Casteau or whatever, let me know. It would be nice to talk to someone else that lived there. It all seems so long ago...

Moved to Dusseldorf from N.Ireland attending Kent School. Was a day student but had friends who were borders - ironically when we left in 1984 we moved to Kent in UK. Parents still live there but I moved to Gloucestershire with my then partner, had 2 daughters in 1994 & 1997, we got married in 2000 and now have another daughter born in 2007. Just become a grandmother - before I hit "The BIG 40" on 29th May - my stepdaughter had a daughter.
Have been trying to get back in touch with some mates from the 80's - Suzanne Browne, Tina Crossley, Tracey Speakman to name a few.

Subject: Sponsorship Request - The Fostering Network
Hi guys - I see Colin has put my Fund Raising Link on the front page of the KSA website. Thanks Colin, most unexpected. I just thought I'd add a message here and ask directly for your help and sponsorship for this trek.

The plan is for me to complete the Inca Trail in Peru during October 2008, climbing 12,000 feet, trekking through the Andes to Macchu Picchu. The aim is to raise over £3,000 to support the Fostering Network's work with fostered children and young people across the UK. My wife and I are foster carers (we have a wee monster/little darling (depends on the moon cycle) with us at the moment)and the Network are a great help to all involved with Fostering in the UK (so your sponsorship will help kids in your area as well).

I am hoping that you may be able to sponsor me and although I realise you must receive many such requests during the course of a year I do hope that you will be able to help. Please dig deep and sponsor me online
at http://www.justgiving.com/davidmcelhoney
I am not looking for alot - a couple of pounds or a fiver will be as greatfully appreciated as the larger donations.

Come on Kenties - please help.

Best Wishes and Regards

Dave Mac

Hi All I arrived at Kent in my second year which was approx 1984, was terrified of the buildings, it was lashing down with rain and the place looked so dreary, I remember Mr Staunton (cos he didnt like my sense of humour too much eek) and then in third year, my tutor was miss Lafferty, brilliant teacher I owe her so much. My favourite lessons were PE RE and Art, Miss Ager took me for English but she didnt like me very much either (pattern forming here?) I used to be good pals with Jamie Wride, Ben Chapman, Diana Dunk, Debbie Deane, Kirsty Lewis, Sanjay Mohindra, eek memory is fading! I also had a lot of older friends Lynn Miller, Shaz Slorence, Cheryl Ford and Mike Whitelaw was like a big brother to me, also Tank was too. Remember Miss Lafferty's dog LAD god did he have bad breath, god help you if she caught you eating in class - press ups to her count whilst the dog tried to snog you! best wishes to all fellow Kent friends it was a great experience xx love Lynne xx (also known as Dimps or Moods!)

Hi Carolyn. Thanks for replying. I honestly would be surprised if anyone remembered me. Sad really! You were right about the little sisters. Susan was the same age as my sister Denise. My parents were stationed at SHAPE and we had been accepted at the Canadian Section of the International school and the Little sisters had been turned down. Thats why there was a fight. It was hilarious. Did you ever go on the midsummer night trek with Miss
oriarty (can't remember her married name}. If its any help, I was the one ususally stuck in the prep room doing everyone elses homework. That earned me the nickname of Penelope, why I don't know. Do you remember Tony Hansom? Always had a crush on him. If you remember anymore names let me know. Take care

Have no doubt that no one remembers me as I tended to fade into the background until the day of my fight in the foyer of chatham with the sisters ann and susan little. Was very pleased that the guys from Deal were cheering me on. That little escapade got me loss of privelidges for two weeks. Happy days!!!!

Good to see the site is still up and running. Good memories of the old place, sad to see the state of it now. Lived on Bruggen and spent most of my evenings down the youth club and in the summer round the pool. Hung around with Dave Davies. I remember Bev and Andrea Moir, the Skidmores, the Potters, Mark and Vanness. As I say, good memories.

Hi Chris
I was the one with very ginger hair. I was friends with Karen Schemeld and Diane Nuttal and later with Linda Hewitt.I also worked in the Maidstone Munchbar lunchtimes, and boogied away at the Rochester Disco at too! How I loved that! There is a photo of me taken when I was in the 6th form in the photo gallery. Its amazing how I thought I would remember everyone forever - but alas time has dulled some things - like names, but I do remember in very clear focus my time at Kent.

Just read some posts lower down from Mark Tucker and Jane Braithwaite. I was in Miss Boardman's german class when the stink bomb went off. I remember you Mark, weren't you related to a member of Sweet and used to get free singles? Sorry Jane, but I've only a vague picture of you in my mind. People I do remember from those years are Brian Coulson, Gourley? John Tomney, Theresa Banks, Penny Andrews amongst others.
I remember Took (Beard and Glasses). Mr Redman, and lots of other teachers, in fact I've loads of memories of Germany.
I lived in Geilenkirchen, we never moved onto a camp in those three years. I had two brothers at Kent, the elder was known as "Taff" and I was known as "Angus" (because I'm Welsh!)

Hi Everyone

Love the site. I have really good memories from my time at Kent/Windsor school. Would love to hear from anyone that remembers me, my sister Christine and brothers Danny & Sean. We used to bus in from Krefeld, St Tonis.

My brother went to the old school last year and he said it was in a state. He said it was strange as his step-daughter just started Windsor school so he showed her where is used to be before moving to JHQ.

Are any of the old staff still working at the school? I heard Mr Martin was still in JHQ and Ms Hall.

Remember, Max Young, Vicky Smith, Sally Bowen, Sue Williams, Kim Bruten, Jo Taylor, Gary Bremer, Morf, Paddy, Steve Webb, Steve Day, Hamish, Ned and so many more! Has anyone heard from Morf or Paddy? They are the only ones I have not heard from. Grew up mainly in Chatham house, and spent many nights stood in the glass corridor for misbehaving. Does anyone remember who the boys were that ran accross the roof in the middle of the night because we dared them, and they were caught! I was suspended for it as were Gary Bremer and Hamish but I can't remember who else was involved. Also, anyone heard from Serisha Teise?

Hi Folks,
Those that may remember me as I used to run the Deal Disco and Studio 2000 for a bit but also played in one of the school bands. I played in Science Friction, pretentious bunch of no hopers with even less talent!!! Andy Bates was the lead singer, Martin Minchin Bass, Yorrick Phoenix Keyboard, Tomas Del Rio Guitar, Alan on other guitar and me on drums, yes we were appalling whils the other band with Ramsey on drums, Phil on Guitar, Ions on Bass Alex singer and another on guitar whose name escapes me were very good.

Just wonder if by any chance anyone has photos of the above, reason being I am in a band www.aawb.co.uk and looking for historic photos for our website!!!

Also trying hard to rememeber some of the ladies, there was a young lady in lower 6th Chatham when I was in upper 6th and I am sure her name was Angela Sumner who originally hailed from Birmingham area, anyone any recollection. And also from Deal the sewing matron had a daughter called Linda who had left school but who I had special interests in!!!! Anyone recall names here would be appreciated.
Anyone else remember me, just say hello, recent events mean memories are important especially the good ones!

Cheers,

Gaz (aka Gareth)

You would be shocked if you saw Bangor Girls' High now! It is now known as Bangor Academy (mixed) and a completely new school has been built close to the original site - it is absolutely huge, accommodating approx. 1,600 pupils. It has its own swimming pool, fitness suite etc and I think it will be opening this September. There is an army of Poles working and living on the site, it would remind you of the T.V. series "Auf Weidersehn Pet"!!
Yes there is a very nice marina and coastal path where the Pickie Pool used to be. The walk you used to take from Bangor to Helen's Bay is also one of my favourites particularly on a Sunday afternoon. I was talking on the telephone last Saturday to a former Kent School English Teacher, Linda Butterworth,(might even be the last one out there, at least of our generation). Her husband Paul teaches in Windsor School (the old Queens School) at JHQ Rheindahlen. They are finishing this year. They actually feature on the photographs taken at the school during the 2006 former pupils' reunion. Also in the photograph is Father Bill Boyd (former Kent School Padre in our time) who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Like myself he is a northern Irishman. He's still going strong working as a Padre on JHQ - amazing! I don't know what is going to become of the old Kent School building. I think somebody mentioned on the website that the Science Block had been acquired by a German developer for conversion into apartments but I'm not sure about that. I don't think anybody really knows - certainly when I spoke to Linda at the weekend she didn't seem to be too sure. She did say however that the visit to the school with the former pupils in 2006 was very upsetting both for herself and Bill Boyd - the school in such a dreadful state but so many happy memories - and that's the best way to remember it Heidi. You got a lot out of it and so did my wife and I. Germany was our first home and we both worked together in the school with some great people - both staff and pupils. For me the memories are also in technicolour and it provided us with a deep affection for Germany which has survived to the present. We visit the country at least once and sometimes two / three times a year, usually much further south in Bavaria. It is like a second home to us and that's something to be thankful for. The Kent School website is truly wonderful for us old Kenties and since contributing to it a number of my former pupils have contacted me -one of whom, David Brasier who was contemporary with you, maintains a very regular e-mail contact. For a former Kent Teacher that is really gratifying. Great to hear from you again.
Take good care and best wishes
Terry

Hi Terry.
I am happy to say that I went to Bangor Girl's High. I had a friend there and am glad to have chosen that school. It was friendly and I have some fond memories, but again nothing compares to K.S. I did have a brief spell in a dreadful school in Lisburn. this was a complete shock, having spent all of my life in Germany and Singapore! It really felt hostile, cold and grey. I always remember Germany as very colourful, warm in the summer and thick beautiful snow in the winter......it just seemed to rain constantly in N.I.
I had a lovely art teacher in Bangor, his name was Mr Irvine. He encouraged me in art. Thanks to him I went on to do a fine art degree in London. I met and married my husband who is a policeman. We have been together for nearly twenty years!
I am sorry that I don't remember your wife, although I remember science being one of my favorite subjects (along with art).
I only discovered this site a few days ago. I cried when I saw the photos of the neglected buildings.....very sad indeed. There really was something special about it. What is happening to it? Do you know? Does anyone know.
I hope there are some plans for it's restoration....I wonder.
I hear the old sea front in Bangor has changed and that there is a Marina. I used to walk a lot to Helen's Bay and Crawfordsburn Country park. I expect the old outdoor pool has gone. Was it called the Pickie Pool?
Best wishes Heidi

Well Heidi, it really is a very small world! Did you attend Bangor Girls' High or Glenlola Collegiate after your time in Kent School? I have to say that seeing the old place in its crumbling state is really sad and quite upsetting. I learned the better part of my trade in Kent School and so it will always have a strong place in my heart. I don't know if you remember my wife, (also from N. Ireland). She was a Lab Technician in the Kent School Science Department and later School Librarian (blonde and about 5ft 4ins). I was in Palace Barracks very recently for an Army Schools Challenge event. It hasn't changed too much over the years although the garrison strength is now at peace time levels - lots of troops going to Afghanistan & Iraq - I'm sure that you would have little difficulty finding your way around the place.
Good communicating with you.
Best wishes
Terry

I was a teacher at Kent in your time (History & Careers). The Housemaster you can recall was John Redman - he was also an Art Teacher and ex Royal Navy.
