I do actually remember you Kevin. It's strange how the mention of a few names brings young faces clearly into view. You are right - some of us were not much older than our pupils!! I have just retired at 58 so I'm not so ancient. I don't know who the red VW guy was. Are you sure it wasn't me? I used to drive VW's in Germany - first a Beetle, then a Variant (great car!!), followed by two Passats - one of which was red. Terry Gilpin stuck to Peugot 504's, Fred Cowell and Mike Hayes drove Renault 16's. Another close friend of mine with whom I'm still in contact - Dave Evans (Science Teacher), drove a VW Variant and then got a Volvo. There was an Art Teacher, Tom Neilson Marsh, who drove one of the first BMW 3 series. Rod Ellis drove a Saab for a while. He eventually left teaching and joined the RAF. Don't know if he's still serving. I met an RAf Officer about 7 years ago down in Bavaria who knew Rod. At that time he was based at the big American airbase at Ramstein near Kaiserslautern.
Don't know about Don Davis - I think he left Kent before I did as did John Morell.
Good to hear from you Kevin - what are you doing in Texas?

Mr McNulty,
It was good to see your post on the message board. I am not sure you remember me... my elder brother, Michael Jones, was two years ahead of me, I am the younger one 'Kevin Jones' I remember Mr Martin well, and also Terry Gilpin. I keep thinking you guys must be ancient by now, but really most of the teachers were under 30 and were not that much older than us. You had a friend who drove a VW I think it was red.. can't remember his name. I often wonder what happened to everyone.. Adrian Leggett and Nigel Parsons. Phil Bishop who was so good at science? I am pleased you returned to Northern Ireland, and that you ended up in a good position. I do not remember your wife. I am guessing Mr Morel is long gone. Mr Davis (Don, I think) was a good man, and I think of hime often. I hope the nostalgia of returning to here is not too painful for you... I feel so old when I find so few postings pre 1970.
Stay in touch please Mr McNulty

Great to find this site! I taught in the History Department with Tony Martin, Chris Dodsworth, Nora Harkness etc. Tutor in Deal House for three years. Was also 2i/c Careers under John Loaring. My wife, Naomi was School Librarian between 1974 and 1976. Prior to that she was a Lab Assistant in the Science Block. A few names which I recognise among the former pupils who have contributed to this Guestbook, (great to hear from you Kevin Knowles!!) Had a look at the photographs taken of the old school at the 2006 reunion. Really saddened to see the state the venerable old building is now in. Many, many happy memories. Kent School and its pupils taught me alot about the art of teaching - more than any college would ever do. Still in touch with Linda & Paul Butterworth, Father Bill, Fred Cowell,Terry Gilpin, Mike Hayes - does anybody remember them? Margaret Corden who worked in the General Office and her husband Malcolm (ex RAF Germany Band, coming to visit us next month - much reminiscing!! I have recently retired as Principal of a High School in Newtownards, County Down. Had a Maths Supply Teacher for a while, former Kent School Maths Teacher, Jean Johnston who had married a Church of Ireland Vicar. What a really small world it is. I will keep visiting this site from now on - aah nostalgia!!

Hello there, thought I might be able to add a couple of names to the list of people who lived through the Kent Experience and whos whereabouts are known; I spent 2 years working with Martin Lacklison in Malta recently, and visited Maki Takashima in Tokyo. If you're passing Japan one day- drop in -it's close to Nirvana imo. Mr Mordecai and Danny and Lynda Strike were kind enough to put me up for a night or so as I passed by as I drove round europe for something to do last year. I visited Kent and bluffed my way in- (told the dopey 'guard' I was interested in buying the site) I have about 100 photos, will post some. Pretty depressing pics mind you- bullet hole in the front entrance doors, all trashed inside. The chapel is interesting... Good to see many familiar names on this site - trying to put a face to the name is another matter... 40 yrs old next week! seeesh...

Hello all ex Kenties this is a great site brings back many great memories. My dad was stationed at Bruggen so I went to Cheshire Middle School and then to Kent in the third year. I was in 3PJM Mr Martins tutor group, he was a bit of a dude and all the birds fancied him. In my class I remember Russel Flint, Ceri Whitley, Louise Allen, Siobhan, Julia Jones (I play snooker with her dad and uncle most Saturdays). I seen her last year and she still looks great. She was on the same P&A course as me aswell in the late 80's when we were in the RAF - small world. I will have to get myself to one of these reunions, I think my liver should just about be able to cope with it. Keep up the outstanding work all those who organise this great site.

Hi all, just found this site after googling Kent School trying to describe what it was really like at Colditz to my daughter!! They say the best years of your life are at school....how true is that. Kent was unique and holds fond memories for me. Hopefully someone may remember me - I'm the one who had his 3-button high waster trousers nicked from the changing rooms and spent the rest of the week in jeans!!! I was a border at Deal House for my final year and shared a dorm with Paul Brazier. My favourite wind up was doing impersonations of the teachers, unfortunately Mr Cassidy didn't see the funny side. Brian Hollis was a good mate of mine, he was the guitar player in the school band Image...remember them??? Anyone fancies a reminisce just drop me a line. BTW - remember the careers lessons? Did anyone actually become a Mastic Asphalt Spreader??????

Hi all,

Lived in Wildenrath and was a day student at Kent. Remember the old youth club (club67), on the base, it used to be way up the other end by the Malcom Club. It was a black building with yellow trim. It had an aquarium with gold fish in it. We used to dump all kinds of stuff in there but the fish never died. Then they moved the club down closer to the picture house. Our group of delinquents were the ones responsible for painting the dance room at the club flat black and putting up the black lights.

Friends at school, Ian Heath, Michael Bennett, Duncan Flynn and many more. Started off in Canterbury under that idiot Mr English then moved on to Rochester. Spent many a lunch hour in his office. Got suspended in the end and came back into Rochester house.I did quite well at the swimming gala's at Reindahlen, breast stroke and diving. Have been in contact with many people from those days, the Crowther sisters, Brenda Redpath, Carol James, Steve Anderson, and many more. Drop me a line if you remember me or want any e-mail addresses of the above.

Another one. Started at Kent in Sept 1974 and had maths teacher Ian Farquar, a fellow Scot from Dundee. He was a brilliant teacher. Knew exactly what to expect in the 1976 A-level maths exam. My family comes from Dundee and on a visit back home in Summer 1975 we were talking to Dundee relatives about school and mentioned Ian Farquar. "Wee bloke that plays rugby?" asked my Aunty Maureen (married to my Dad's brother). "That's right." "He was at Harris Academy with me." Mentioned this to Mr Farquar when school restarted 09/75. "Do you remeber Maureen Ramsay from the Harris Academy?" I asked. "She was my lass." he replied. How small can the world be? Phil

Strang coincidence after leaving school. I raduated from Glasgow University (Electronics) and started work at Ferranti in Edinburgh. I was chatting to one of the blokes I worked with about school days and told him about Germany. "Oh, there's a bloke in Gyro Test that went to school in Germany." "Oh aye!" I said and thought no more about it. A month or so later we had a skittles night and I sort of half recognised one of the blokes. Heard his accent and that prompted me to ask if he had gone to Kent. Jeff Hebden was in L6 while I was in U6 in 1976. Beat that!

Ok - just realised that I don't have an entry so thought it was time I did. Lived at Elmpt (Bruggen) and moved to Wildenraft the summer of 76, till December 77. Loved Kent school, seeing as my surname was Kent at the time how could I not! Was the first school I went to where big brother was housed (Mick Kent 5th yr), mum was also a bus escort on teh tin cans. Favourite memory is learning to play hockey, taught by Mrs Warmsley - I went onto play for Northampton Ladies later in life so she taught me well. Other names I don't remember, but best mate was Sarah Beeby (would love to find her). Must one day dig out my leaving book from the attic with everyone's names in. Loved the stories about the attic and the cellars, brother used to scare me stupid with ghosts stories. Sandra Harding used stay with us a weekends as she hated boarding - sadly she died a few years ago. Love to hear from anyone who remebers me - will definately make it to Swindon, gutted that I couldn't go to the big reunion earlier.

So sad to see the school in the state it's now in, i was looking at the pictures and had a flash back to the tuck shop that was near one of the gates (i think) and laying on the grass at lunch time and looking up at the small arch windows at the top of the blocks, and does anyone else remember some kind of animal sanctuary mainly birds i seem to remember near the sports fields, i am not to clear of the dates i went there, but my father was in the RAF and stationed at wildenrath and we used to bus there everyday, i used to live at the far end of wildenrath near where the youthclub, robin way it may have been ?, i used to belong to the photo clud at kent school, and if anyone remembers me drop me a line, i used to pal around with a chap called neil rowe ? i still remember the school uniform and those bloody ties,

I also remeber Mr. Rusten (Drama) he had the drama classroom totally blackend out and had us listen to Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother in the pitch dark for a double drama lesson. Was that cool or what ? Then there was Bob Sherill (Technical Drawing Class) he had quite long hair for a teacher, was in a wheelchair and a really great guy. He let a couple of us lads drive his converted car in his spare time. Oh yes, and there was Christine Quarington in my class, a beautifull girl with blond hair and gorgeous legs.I and many other guys were crazy about her. David Coburn and Andrew Lawson (His dad was a headteacher elswhere) are 2 of the few names I recall.

Does anyone recall sciving lessons and exploring the locked up wards and the attics ??? One of the girls fell through the rotting attic floor and landed on a toilet on the lower floor, fortunately no serious harm was done.

Really so many fond memories which i would love to share with anyone who was arround at the time.

At last !! I've been waiting for this opportunity for ages to get in contact with anybody from my schooldays at Kent. Unfortunately I do'nt remember too many names. TEACHERS: Mr. England (History) Mrs. Denier (Music) Mr. Lovegrove (German) FRIENDS: One name really sticks out DAVID HOLLAND. We used to hang out together and listen to John Mayall and Eric Clapton. I remember getting caught smoking behind the barn, there were about 50 of us. We had to queue outside the headmasters office for "six of the best". I remember it well. "This is going to hurt me more than it's going to hurt you" It was a great laugh. I was playing in a band and we performed at the annual school dance. Anybody who may know anyone from those days please let me know. Give us a shout. Looking forward to hearing from you.

This my current band: www.deadguitars.com or http://www.myspace.com/deadguitars

Wierd reading this after all these years. A lot of good memories mixed with a few bad. Lot of the names are well remembered and being as I believe in Karma things can only get better. Remember Mr Ellis showing us his photo's of him drressed in a womens swimsuit! Probably be nicked for that these days. Ended up in the morgue in 4rg (gregory the pipe) Saw Redman at Heathrow years ago. Bumped into John Morrel on Southend pier with his son. Sold a tv on hire purchase to Mr Freeze (Frize) the scottish teacher. Caused mayhem in Minny Martins Maths group. Lived at Green Park (SHAPE) hated those interminable journeys across europe! Currently working as a jobbing builder for a small chain of pubs in north London. Living with an angel but no kids due to a plumbing defect (she'll kill me for that one). Planning on selling up and downsizing to Cumbria and the n live off of the proceeds of my flat! Particularly remeber Baldwin, Brett, Miller and Smith. In short not a place I would have sent any kids of mine to (had I any). Be good out there in e-world.

Well ... I suppose I could let you off that now, but I still have some pretty horrific memories of a guy you knew as Chengo. Up until a few years ago I still had a darkened front tooth from that encounter! Urgh!

You may also remember the Sharpe family, most notably Blair. I think it was Blair and his youmger brother who joined our happy(?) crew on the bus to Kent School. They were of Canadian origin, and I believe that Blair is now a respected Artist back in Canada.

Also you might remember a very slightly built girl named Heather Moyce who joined us in about 1973 . . not sure if her younger sister Debbie was there as well. Anyway their Father was my Old Mans' Boss at Clutch Radar.

I do remember the Phillips Halle well, I used to bring home about half a dozen oddities for concerts on the bus, but my Mother was usually inundated with double that amount of impromtu lodgers on those nights ... she was in the DK (Drunken Kids) Guide as highly recommended I think! Happy Days ... well some of them.
