Hi fellow scholars, just happened upon this site by chance and it was certainly interesting reading some of the comments. I must be getting ancient, because hardly anyone on this site went to Kent in the period I did. I seem to remember the Headmaster being called Mr Williams, deputy head Mr Myhill, who had a daughter Safron (I was mad about Safron)and Miss Attack and Mr Davis, who loved to tell us of the time he bombed Koeln in the war. I had a girlfriend called Sandra (Sandy) Walker for a lot of the time but we lost contact when she moved to Catterick in 1967. My dad was stationed at Willich serving with the Royal Engineers and everyday our little green army bus would trundle to Hostert (as we sang "we all live in a green army bus"). When I attended Kent School a lot of the old buildings were out of bounds, which made me and a few of my mates all the more determined to find out the grizzly secrets of the place and we were often caned for being caught "out of Bounds", including sneaking over to the old farm for a snog in the breaktimes. For some reason I cannot remember a single name of anyone in my class ... hmm shame on me, but it was 44 years ago. I was in Rochester house (The good old yellows) and I remember me and my house winning the cross country championships just before I left in 1968. Apparently just after I left the place was turned on it's head with a swimming pool and gymnasium being built and shortly after that it was turned into a boarding school. Been back through Hostert a few times since I left in 1968 but the last time in 2001 the place was dead and deserted ... all that remain are memories.
