I was at Kent 69-71 {I think] 2nd & 3rd year. I lived in Lilienthal str. MGladbach and went on the bus with Geoff Elliot and his sister, Laurence and Petra Kelly,Jimmy Armitidge and Jurgen Green. I was quiet and in awe of most of them. At school I was friends with Lynne Stuart, Eilean Waterman,Sheila Young (sister Shirley) Carol Heath, Deborah Samuelle.I played hockey for the house team and we won the cup.

Hi Folks, Those that may remember me as I used to run the Deal Disco and Studio 2000 for a bit but also played in one of the school bands. I played in Science Friction, pretentious bunch of no hopers with even less talent!!! Andy Bates was the lead singer, Martin Minchin Bass, Yorrick Phoenix Keyboard, Tomas Del Rio Guitar, Alan on other guitar and me on drums, yes we were appalling whils the other band with Ramsey on drums, Phil on Guitar, Ions on Bass Alex singer and another on guitar whose name escapes me were very good.
Just wonder if by any chance anyone has photos of the above, reason being I am in a band www.aawb.co.uk and looking for historic photos for our website!!!
Also trying hard to rememeber some of the ladies, there was a young lady in lower 6th Chatham when I was in upper 6th and I am sure her name was Angela Sumner who originally hailed from Birmingham area, anyone any recollection. And also from Deal the sewing matron had a daughter called Linda who had left school but who I had special interests in!!!! Anyone recall names here would be appreciated. Anyone else remember me, just say hello, recent events mean memories are important especially the good ones!
Cheers,
Gaz (aka Gareth)

Oh yeh, there was also Fish (red hair) with the sweet smile, who I fancied like hell....I also remember the tragadies of kent School, the girl who died after she feel out of the bunkbed. (or so I was told, I only saw the coroner in the morning infront of the dorms) and Meggan who died in the accident on that Hovercraft, I really liked her...and still think of her. Maybe someone remembers me...I used to use my Stepfarther's name (Vavasour) I use my maiden name since I was 16 (Schuhrk). I would find It great to hear from you folks, exchange a few stories from the kenti days. untill then Steffi (Steph)

Heidi You would be shocked if you saw Bangor Girls' High now! It is now known as Bangor Academy (mixed) and a completely new school has been built close to the original site - it is absolutely huge, accommodating approx. 1,600 pupils. It has its own swimming pool, fitness suite etc and I think it will be opening this September. There is an army of Poles working and living on the site, it would remind you of the T.V. series "Auf Weidersehn Pet"!! Yes there is a very nice marina and coastal path where the Pickie Pool used to be. The walk you used to take from Bangor to Helen's Bay is also one of my favourites particularly on a Sunday afternoon. I was talking on the telephone last Saturday to a former Kent School English Teacher, Linda Butterworth,(might even be the last one out there, at least of our generation). Her husband Paul teaches in Windsor School (the old Queens School) at JHQ Rheindahlen. They are finishing this year. They actually feature on the photographs taken at the school during the 2006 former pupils' reunion. Also in the photograph is Father Bill Boyd (former Kent School Padre in our time) who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Like myself he is a northern Irishman. He's still going strong working as a Padre on JHQ - amazing! I don't know what is going to become of the old Kent School building. I think somebody mentioned on the website that the Science Block had been acquired by a German developer for conversion into apartments but I'm not sure about that. I don't think anybody really knows - certainly when I spoke to Linda at the weekend she didn't seem to be too sure. She did say however that the visit to the school with the former pupils in 2006 was very upsetting both for herself and Bill Boyd - the school in such a dreadful state but so many happy memories - and that's the best way to remember it Heidi. You got a lot out of it and so did my wife and I. Germany was our first home and we both worked together in the school with some great people - both staff and pupils. For me the memories are also in technicolour and it provided us with a deep affection for Germany which has survived to the present. We visit the country at least once and sometimes two / three times a year, usually much further south in Bavaria. It is like a second home to us and that's something to be thankful for. The Kent School website is truly wonderful for us old Kenties and since contributing to it a number of my former pupils have contacted me -one of whom, David Brasier who was contemporary with you, maintains a very regular e-mail contact. For a former Kent Teacher that is really gratifying. Great to hear from you again. Take good care and best wishes Terry

Hi Terry. I am happy to say that I went to Bangor Girl's High. I had a friend there and am glad to have chosen that school. It was friendly and I have some fond memories, but again nothing compares to K.S. I did have a brief spell in a dreadful school in Lisburn. this was a complete shock, having spent all of my life in Germany and Singapore! It really felt hostile, cold and grey. I always remember Germany as very colourful, warm in the summer and thick beautiful snow in the winter......it just seemed to rain constantly in N.I. I had a lovely art teacher in Bangor, his name was Mr Irvine. He encouraged me in art. Thanks to him I went on to do a fine art degree in London. I met and married my husband who is a policeman. We have been together for nearly twenty years! I am sorry that I don't remember your wife, although I remember science being one of my favorite subjects (along with art). I only discovered this site a few days ago. I cried when I saw the photos of the neglected buildings.....very sad indeed. There really was something special about it. What is happening to it? Do you know? Does anyone know. I hope there are some plans for it's restoration....I wonder. I hear the old sea front in Bangor has changed and that there is a Marina. I used to walk a lot to Helen's Bay and Crawfordsburn Country park. I expect the old outdoor pool has gone. Was it called the Pickie Pool? Best wishes Heidi

Well Heidi, it really is a very small world! Did you attend Bangor Girls' High or Glenlola Collegiate after your time in Kent School? I have to say that seeing the old place in its crumbling state is really sad and quite upsetting. I learned the better part of my trade in Kent School and so it will always have a strong place in my heart. I don't know if you remember my wife, (also from N. Ireland). She was a Lab Technician in the Kent School Science Department and later School Librarian (blonde and about 5ft 4ins). I was in Palace Barracks very recently for an Army Schools Challenge event. It hasn't changed too much over the years although the garrison strength is now at peace time levels - lots of troops going to Afghanistan & Iraq - I'm sure that you would have little difficulty finding your way around the place. Good communicating with you. Best wishes Terry

Jane, did you take German? I think the teacher was Miss Boardman. We had books with pictorial examples, like people, trains etc.We traced the people, and drew Nazi helmets on them - for some reason she threw a wobbler!

Noticed Kevin Knowles as I was looking down the guest list, don't know if you rember me but we started school together at Ios Nicholios primery in Cyprus.
